we are limei and niamh, a young queer couple moving to new zealand for a year and hoping to share our experiences!
about us!
Hi! We are Limei and Niamh and we want to introduce ourselves to you! Limei was born on the Micronesian Island of Palau and raised in the US whilst Niamh was born and raised in the UK. We began dating during our final year of university and quickly discovered our shared love of travelling! As many soon-to-be graduates experience, we had no clue what was next for us. The sound of a 9-5 corporate job was not appealing to either of us and we knew we weren't ready to settle down just yet, so one day, whilst sat in a London coffee shop, we made the spontaneous decision to apply for working holiday visas in New Zealand. Over the next couple of months, we began to put together what this next year of our lives would look like. Where will we go? What will we do? How will we fund this? So many questions swirled around our heads and we relied on an endless amount of research in order to answer them. And so now, we want to be able to help people in the same position, whether you're thinking about moving to New Zealand, wondering how safe it is for queer people, or simply just curious about what it's like on the other side of the world! We hope that you enjoy reading about our year in New Zealand, which starts on January 21st 2025 (a date that has come around scarily fast!).
